I recently voted for the first time a few weeks ago. I did it by mail in ballot and was surprised to see how time consuming it still was. The onslaught of names for candidates and propositions I have never heard of had me stunned. I had to take a step back and review the people of every position being voted on. After 2 hours of research I was prepared. The candidates all required some level of research. It’s important to vote on all categories. I have seen far too many people not voting in all of the categories because it doesn’t seem as important as the presidential race. To this I argue that local governments affect the everyday person the most, at the very least vote on propositions since they are far easier and provide a description below. It felt great to finally have completed it, It felt as though I had given a part of myself to the government. A feeling like no other, I would recommend any other of voting age to do the same.
Update 11/6:
A little part of me died this morning. The results of the election have left me filled with hatred, not at the opposition whose sole crime was voting for their party but others more responsible.
I cast a small fraction of hatred for those undecided, who decided not to cast their vote. I feel hatred tinted with pity for I have heard their arguments before, to not partake in politics. They do to realize the truth of any country that one does not partake in politics but politics partake in you.
A majority of my hatred goes to my own party, one so divided it cannot build towards unity even though it wishes to. Hindsight is twenty-twenty but I knew our people would falter when it came to action. That is how my hatred lies, anger at our own inability to rally together behind a cause worth fighting.
The remainder is an amalgamation of fear and anger. Specifically that of the unknown. At no point in time have I ever been so clouded with doubt as I am now. No one knows the future of our America but the president of our people, Donald J. Trump.
Congratulations.
