There has been great anticipation for 2025’s movie lineup, and a lot of pressure competing against some giants from last year. But it seems like 2025 will not disappoint. This year is shaping up to be a big year for the film industry. Boundary defying Sci-Fi, seat gripping horror, stomach turning comedy, and awe inspiring fantasy. In no Perticular order here are my top 4 picks for 2025’s upcoming movies.
Movie #1: Mickey 17
- Synopsis: Robert Pattinson is as an “expendable” – a disposable crew member who volunteered to go on a dangerous space mission to help colonize the ice world “Niflheim”. He is chosen for dangerous tasks as he can be renewed when he dies, but his memories remain mostly intact. After one regeneration, things go very wrong.
- Cast & Crew:
- Director: Bong Joon Ho
- Writers: Bong Joon Ho, Edward Ashton
- Starring Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, and Michael Monroe
- Why It’s Exciting: To me the concept alone is what brought me in, but the casting of Robert Pattinson and Steven Yeun, two very talented actors is what will make me stay. The Sci-Fi genre has been lacking since the 2010’s, with the exception of a few movies. Mickey 17 seems like it has the visuals, comedy, and action that will be needed to bring the genre back.
Movie #2: Novocaine
- Synopsis
Jack Quaid plays a man who cannot feel physical, after his girlfriend gets kidnapped he takes his rare condition and turns it into an odd advantage as he tries to rescue her.
- Cast & Crew
- Directors: Dan Berk, Robert Olsen
- Writer: Lars Jacobson
- Starring Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Ray Nicholson.
- Why It’s Exciting
Action comedy has become the main genre for the 2020’s but Novocaine puts a wacky spin on it. While the genre has become dull and repetitive Dan Berk and Robert Olsen are ready to take on the task of making this movie original. These 2 directors have been working on movies together since 2015. If you like seeing awkward and quirky characters beat the hell out of people then Novocaine is for you, Jack Quaid did a great job portraying a similar character in the hit tv show “The Boys”
Movie #3: 28 Years Later
- Synopsis
Around three decades after the rage virus consumed England there is still a heavily enforced quarantine. We follow a group of survivors as they live on a small island, their only connection to the mainland is a heavily reinforced causeway. After someone in the group leaves the island into the mainland, they discover many horrors beyond their wildest nightmares.
- Cast & Crew
- Director: Danny Boyle
- Writers: Danny Boyle, Alex Garland
- Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Ralph Fiennes
- Why It’s Exciting
If you have seen 28 days later then you know what an amazing story this movie is based on. If 28 years later is half as good as the first one it will be a hit. Danny Boyle is back for the sequel and is ready to give it his all. With a new set of characters and a very different situation they are put in, I’m excited to see how Boyle ties them into the world and gives them life.
Movie #4: The Odyssey
- Synopsis
We follow Odysseus as he tries to get home after the Trojan War. We see his incredible encounters with the Sirens, Polyphemus, and Circe.
Cast & Crew
-
- Director: Christopher Nolan
- Writers: Homer, Christopher Nolan
- Starring Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya
- Why It’s Exciting
With an incredibly star studded cast The Odyssey looks like it will be one of the best movies of the 2020’s. Actors can make or break a movie and it’s safe to say that these actors will greatly improve this movie. Other than the incredible cast the odyssey is a legendary book, being one of the oldest works of literature it makes it an interesting book to adapt into a movie. But the main reason I recommend this movie is because my favorite and one of the greatest directors of all time is taking the wheel on this movie Directing, writing, and producing. You can bet it will be over 2 and a half hours of beautiful visuals.
