These past few days have been one hell of a rollercoaster for the city of Los Angeles. On Friday, June 6 ,2025 ICE officers and agents conducted organized raids across four central Los Angeles locations where they had secured search warrants. For many Angelinos, this news came as a sudden knock on the door with no warning. Naturally fear and outrage followed. That same day many took it upon themselves to protest on the streets of Downtown Los Angeles in response to President Trump’s latest immigration crackdown. These protests quickly spread like wildfire across the city and continued for the entire weekend. With ICE still running around neighborhoods, tearing immigrant communities apart, the fear hasn’t gone away. Children are afraid to go to school, and families are worried, wondering if this is the last time they will ever see their parents again. Trump’s policy is a huge injustice that implements fear into our communities. So how can we actively help fight against what’s happening right here in our city?
First, spread the word. Remind people around you that they have rights. Citizen or non citizen, you have constitutional rights. You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to sign anything, especially without speaking with a lawyer. You do not have to answer your door, unless they show you a warrant, with your name on it, and it is signed by a judge. And last but not least, you have the right to demand to speak to a lawyer.
It is also important to record and report, protect your community members and hold ICE accountable. Video taping ICE interactions can help expose any illegal or unethical behavior. Many ICE agents rely on misinformation and fear, but when someone is actively filming, it becomes way harder for them to manipulate the situation and violate an individual’s rights. Those videos can be used as evidence for any future legal proceedings. Reporting this activity to different community systems like social media, group chats, websites, etc. also is also very effective. By spreading awareness about their whereabouts, this helps families and individuals stay alert and avoid any possible danger.
