This past weekend, Marshall hosted its prom at the Hilton in Studio City. People gathered outside to take pictures before an excited crowd made its way inside for the prom. At 7:30, the food began to be served, starting with appetizers, followed by the main dish, and then some dessert. In this article, I will break down each plate and hear what Marshall students had to say.
Dish: Tomato Bisque; Each bowl came prepared with a delicious creamy tomato bisque topped with a slice of bread with butter, spinach, and a dash of Béchamel sauce. Most students I talked to said this was the best dish of the night.
Interviewee: Sully Polisky
His Rating: 9/10
Review: “The soup was creamy and delicious. The bread [bread and butter was brought out to each table] was an excellent dip for the soup. This was for sure the best thing I ate.”
Dish: Beef Dinner; Each plate featured a piece of beef on top of mashed potatoes and gravy, accompanied by vegetables on the side.
Interviewee: Chester Bier
His Rating: 7.5/10
Review: “The beef that I experienced gave me a delicious flavor bomb in my mouth. Came apart tenderly, paired beautifully with the mashed potatoes and gravy. The vegetables were tender and offered a beautiful, refreshing, light, reprise from the hardy meal like a sunny day in winter.”
Dish: Chicken Dinner; Each plate featured a grilled chicken breast on a bed of mashed potatoes, topped with gravy, accompanied by vegetables on the side.
Interviewee: Joel Gamez
His Rating: 4.32867/10
Review: “The chicken was juicy but the meal was too garlicy for my taste. Overall, it was alright and was more or less what I expected.”
Dish: Cheesecake; A caramel-infused cheesecake with a crumbly base, topped with chocolate, caramel dressing, and strawberries and blueberries.
Interviewee: Nathan Park
His Rating: 6-7/10
Review: “The cheesecake was a little too sweet. I like that it was topped with berries and that the presentation was good, but in terms of cheesecake, it was ok.”
At some point after all the meals, the majority of students headed to the dance floor or to take photos. During this time, hotel staff stationed cookies in the back of the room– many students were unaware that they were there. Although we were unable to obtain a picture of the cookie, we were fortunate enough to find a student who had tried the cookies and was willing to provide a review.
Interviewee: Jesse Delcompare
His Rating: 9/10
Review: “The cookie was a good size, big cookie. It wasn’t too soft or too hard and the chocolate chips were perfectly melted. I was lucky that I spotted them.”
Overall, most of the food received good reviews and gave students the energy to dance the night away. If any of these dishes looked good to you, and you plan on going to prom in the future, make sure to look out for the meal request form to secure the dish you’d like.
