Props, scripts, and practicing students litter the OAR as the small Marshall Shakespeare class readies themselves for their final performance. As the class divided themselves into small groups, acting out different parts of the play, I interviewed them to ask about their closing thoughts before they hit the stage one last time.

I asked each student about experiences as a performer/student in the Shakespeare class, how they felt about the class, and if they’re ready for the final show.
“I think the Shakespeare class is awesome and I am ready for the performance,” Mia Esparza (11th grade, Magnet ) told me, “I just really like this, I would recommend it.”
“I think this is a really good class and I think I’m ready for the performance,” Sean Ohanesian (11th grade, Stage &Studio) said before Adam Brock butted in to announce to join Shakespeare.
“This class all together has been a very fun experience for me. There have been some challenges along the way, but I think I managed to overcome many of them.” “This performance…well.,.we’ve managed to sort of perfect it,” Itzeli Cervantes (12th grade) answered. “Everyone has really got into their roles perfectly I’d say. And even though there might be a little bit of wariness, I think we have a shot. And plus, it’s about having fun more than perfectionism.”
I finally asked Brock about the growth of his program. “I’ve seen everyone improve drastically over the course of a year, which is the fun part about this class.”
“People come in with either zero acting experience or a lot, which allows for the class to not focus on being ‘better’ but to allow them to improve and have fun.” You can catch the final act during the second half of the second period final. Watch the show if you can!
