John Marshall High School hosted the finale of the Battle Of The Bands and many other events at the Greek Theatre for an unforgettable night full of performances, school spirit, and amazing talent.
“Going to the Greek Theatre was actually pretty fun,” said Mako Potestados. “Even though I was backstage, it still felt nice seeing all of my friends and fellow students performing and just being there for Bach, Rock, and Shakespeare.”
Bach Rock & Shakespeare started the night off, and the orchestra joined them. They had four total performances, and at one point, there were audio issues, but the actors did a great job of continuing and being professional. Their performances combined grabbed people’s attention, getting them ready for a night of fun. After the opening performances, there were some speeches from event sponsors and some faculty. A moment that stood out was when Mr. Puentes presented Mr. Finn with a teaching award. This was a very wholesome tribute, which had the audience cheering. After them was the fashion show. The top 20 winners from Marshall’s previous fashion show got to get on stage and show off their designs in a catwalk style. Some designers decided to model their own designs while others chose to have different people model. The outfits were very creative and cool, and seeing students show off their passion is incredible. Big thanks to Ms. Barish for putting it all together! Marshall’s Dance Troupe “FYE” followed that up, they shocked the crowd with their cool dance moves and had everyone vibing with them. This performance was a good pick me up after the speeches. Our Drumline performed after, showcasing some amazing skills and coordination in brand-new outfits. They had great rhythm and brought the crowd’s energy even higher than it was
Right before the finale, the Jazz Combo performed, bringing some chill and smooth vibes. Their performance was well appreciated, helping serve as a nice break in the action, giving the audience a moment to relax before things got loud again. Wrapping up the night, there was the Battle of the Garage Bands finale, which was easily the most hyped part of the whole event. The bands competing were The Vultures, Plutos, Greenware, TSS, and House of Leaves. Every band had amazing performances, but House of Leaves stole the show, clinching them the win with an amazing set that shocked the whole crowd. The winning members were Hailey Caldera, Arthur Florez, Fernando Orozco, Victor Rodriguez, and Arsh Virdi. Sadly, Campus News wasn’t allowed to record any footage or take any photos of the event this year. They were ready to film, but in the contract, it said no recording.
Starting with classical music and fashion, transitioning to dancing and rock bands, Marshall owned the Greek Theatre stage. If you were performing, backstage, or just watching, you had an amazing experience and were glad you didn’t miss it. Hopefully, Campus News can get some of the video and make a compilation of what happened so everyone can see.
