As a volley of fires tore through Los Angeles, ASB Leadership students decided to help the community by volunteering at the Dream Center on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Once the leadership students arrived, they were assigned many tasks, from loading groceries into cars to sorting clothing. Each member worked hard and had fun helping the community together.
The people assigned to clothing sorted clothes between genders, seasons, and ages, putting specific categories of clothes in differing boxes and bags to be distributed and sold to families in need. Volunteers also had access to a helpful assortment of free drinks, food, music, and a Wendy’s truck for their services.

One leadership student, Luka Lopez Mclean, who is in his senior year and is a yearbook liaison, said, “I was stationed by the cars, where they broke down boxes and helped put groceries in other people’s cars.” He added that the experience was “enjoyable.”

Another leadership student in attendance was Julia Gomes, a Sophomore congressional liaison stationed “…at the thrift store, sorting clothes and donations.” Adding, “…it was really fun because a good amount of leadership kids were doing it together, so it was like, team effort.”
