On January 29, 2025, Lunar New Year, ASU and ASB collaborated to host a Lunar New Year celebration on the basketball courts. Tables surrounded the courts, all featuring the same game: Bầu cua cá cọp. The Vietnamese gambling game uses a six-sided die adorned with a crab, fish, prawn, chicken, calabash, and tiger instead of numbered pips. Players “gamble” to get a total of 18 beans. ASU members also handed out red envelopes, a traditional Lunar New Year gift, containing chocolate and occasionally money. Off to the side stood a wishing tree, where partakers wrote their wishes on small slips of paper and placed them on the branches.

The Asian Student Union, colloquially ASU, is a vibrant club dedicated to sharing the rich history of Asian cultures and promoting a sense of community and inclusivity. With a mission to connect people from diverse backgrounds, ASU hosts biweekly meetings that feature various activities, including cultural presentations by representatives from different countries. The club also organizes school-wide events during significant Asian cultural dates, inviting everyone to experience and appreciate the beauty of Asian heritage.
ASU’s commitment to interconnection extends beyond its members, as the club warmly welcomes individuals from outside the Asian community to join and learn about different cultures. By promoting understanding and respect for the various values and traditions, ASU aims to break down barriers and build stronger, more inclusive relationships among students. Through these efforts, the club emphasizes the importance of history and the need to reduce discrimination faced by many Asians.

The ultimate goal of the Asian Student Union is to create a united and informed population that values diversity and educates one another. By fostering greater bonds and mutual understanding, ASU hopes to pave the way for a more harmonious and inclusive future for all students, regardless of their cultural background.
