Learning to speak computor always seemed novel, like something I would admire but never attempt at. One could understand my suprise when I learned a highschool club would teach its intrequicies in the matter of half an hour. This would cause me to attend my first meeting and subsequently have an interview with Ela, one of the presidents of the club, Girls Who Code. They meet every Thursday during lunch at room 204 and offer lessons in the art of coding. I interviewed Ela with the hopes that she would give me some insightful commentary on the club. I was not let down.
AP: What is the main purpose of this club?
Ela: It’s about creating a safe space for an underrepresented group in STEM and promoting engagement in coding.
AP: Can anyone join or is it restricted to girls who can code?
Ela: Men can join but the club is targeted towards women as they are really underrepresented in the field
AP: What code will be taught?
Ela: We will teach many different binary coding languages, varying per meeting
AP: Who will teach the club and what are their credentials?
Ela: I (Ela) am one of the presidents of the club, my experience is based primarily off of taking AP Computer Science and passing the AP test.
