Coachella’s Early Lineup Creates Buzz Among John Marshall High Students
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, much more popularly known as Coachella, had surprised its fans earlier in November with an early release of its lineup, Headlined by Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, and Travis Scott. Though for some, it was no shocker considering the many rumors that were floating around on social media about the early Coachella lineup. At John Marshall High School, the lineup has become a hot topic, fueling lunchtime debates and classroom chatter. Many students took to social media to voice their opinions on the featured artists on the lineup. This year’s lineup feels much more diverse to some students, with the featuring of more electronic music and international artists.
One of the headliners revealed will include the iconic Lady Gaga, which some were excited to hear; however, not everyone shared this feeling. Brianna Rodriguez, a senior, questioned the selection of Gaga to headline. “I like Lady Gaga but she doesn’t really fit anywhere. Her newer music is a lot more mellow and it doesn’t feel impactful unlike some of the other artists. I’m not saying she’s bad, she just doesn’t fit.”
Other students said that this 2025 lineup can’t even compare to previous years because it didn’t meet many of their expectations. Sophia Gutierrez, a junior, who consistently attends Coachella, shared her thoughts in an interview about the lineup. When asked how she feels about the lineup she responded with, “I’m mostly looking forward to the Dj’s and Charli XCX but the headliners this year suck.”
I was also able to interview senior Johanna Orellana who said she could see why others might be disappointed or underwhelmed with the lineup, but on the bright side, saying, ” I’m really happy that Wisp is performing, they’re one of my favorite bands.”
The 2025 lineup has definitely stirred its fair share of controversy around campus. Whether it was international artists, new artists, headliners, or even disappointment with the lineup in general, Coachella remains one of the most awaited music festivals in the United States and around the world.
As it approaches slowly, the lineup is going to remain the talk of the town for students at John Marshall High School and other music lovers off-campus.
